Preparing for Class

What to Bring

Expect the unexpected. Never be caught off guard. Students should always be fully prepared for any kind of training. Therefore, each student should bring the following items to class:

  • A clean uniform, ironed too if necessary. Respect yourself by dressing in clean clothes and respect others by not stinking up the dojo.

  • Your belt. Don't wash this though, it'll shrink. Besides, a scruffy looking belt shows how hard you've been training and is a badge of honor.

  • A full water bottle that will last you the entire class. Bring it all the way into the dojo so you don't take a long time during water breaks.

  • Sparring gear: hands, feet, mouthguard, cup. (Sparring gear only applies to blue stripe and above.)

  • Running shoes with good support and impact cushioning.

  • Weapons (This only applies to 2nd Gup red belts and above).

  • Inhaler, epipen or any other specialized equipment particular to your needs.

  • A positive attitude!

Most people like to put all this stuff in a duffel bag. If you want one with the Wu-Hsin Te logo on it, check out our shop. (Note: shop is only for registered students and supporters.)

Arrive On Time

Students should arrive 10-30 minutes early. Earlier might interrupt Master King's prior commitments. Later leaves you unprepared. When you arrive with time to spare, you can be doing the following:

  • Use the restroom in advance.

  • Make sure your water bottle is full.

  • Get your uniform and belt on.

  • Stretch, warm up, and practice recent material.

  • Ask or answer questions about curriculum material.

  • Switch gears mentally; set aside thoughts about your job or other life situations.
